food for thought...Fm Transmission and Wireless Internet

A portion of the money raised for the Bantul Earthquake relief effort went into buying a pretty powerful FM transmitter that is now used by three villages as a means of independent media transmission.

Hobo Gobbelins need March shows in SoCal/AZ

| | | |

Hey all-

Zombie Dan here with the Hobo Gobbelins (http://www.myspace.com/hobogobbelins). We're planning out a Spring tour for late March '08 and I'm putting out a call for contacts in Southern California and Arizona. We're looking for fun shows with interesting people and at least a fighting chance at making some $$$ for food/fuel. We'll be in a bus and descend on the venue as a terrifying horde. Fancy-schmancy art events, wine tastings, raucous house hoedowns, quinceaneras, seedy speakeasies, love-ins, key parties, we'll play them all.

Micah Hall R.I.P.

Micah Hall, a good friend to many of us, died on Halloween night. We still don't know what happened as of this writing. It's so hard to make sense of it all especially when it hits you so suddenly. Micah has worked at Little Seven making jewelry with many of us. He also roadied with the Extra Action Marching Band for many years.

Friends started calling hospitals when Micah was not heard from all day on Thursday. The doctor at the hospital where Micah was located said that he could only reveal the cause of death to a family member.

People will be gathering at La Boheme on 24th and Mission in SF at 7pm to join the Dia de los Muertos parade tonight.

hAiL O...we R'sakitkuningcollectivo

Sakitkuning is a collective established by a group of students from the Jakarta Art Institute[indonesia]. The group of individuals that have come together in this collective have different artistic backgrounds: visual arts, cinematography, and performance art. Using such a variety of artistic disciplines, sakitkuningCollectivo seems to always be producing work, they have multi-media art exhibitions in which the presented material is not any longer conventional or tied in with only one art disciplin, but is more collaborative, explorative, experimental and rushes by various disciplines that raise themes and issues that are recent, factual and sometimes phenomenal and spectacular.

Within sakitkuningCollectivo all members are brought together and play around to bring out their forms of expression which are freed from the conventional expectations of art. They try to explore and produce creative ideas (or ideas that are not creative at all) without the limits imposed by the subjugated areas of art which merely move in one field. And then they try to present this dream on the stage, as a part of some reality. Art and beauty don’t become destinations, but tools for destinations that they intend to reach, meaning social, moral and even spritual messages. Something which the work of sakitkuningColectivo clearly doesn’t want to be is commercial. SakitkuningColectivo is always more focused on urban moral and social issues; it’s character, conditions and continuity, it’s people and communities. As well as some phenomena that exist within these, including aspects that slip away from the observation of the majority of the people.
