food for thought...Fm Transmission and Wireless Internet
Submitted by sunflowrfish on Thu, 02/28/2008 - 11:11am. Fm Transmission and Wireless Internet in IndonesiaA portion of the money raised for the Bantul Earthquake relief effort went into buying a pretty powerful FM transmitter that is now used by three villages as a means of independent media transmission.Â
I've been reading the book "Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution" by Howard Rheingold lately, and I am very interested in the info presented in chapter 6 "Wireless Quilts" (pp 144-156) and this has gotten me extremely interested in the idea of using the transmitter for packet radio networks to develop high speed wireless networks using 802.11b access points spread across the villages, and perhaps eventually beyond.
This way, the villagers could have access to the internet and WWW for free at a community-based internet kiosk.
Anyone have any ideas on how to make this more of a reality? Ill be returning to Indo in June sometime, and will have a house-sit in Bali, if anyone wants to work on this..
Peace OutÂ
