Hello Dear friends,

Please join me in this auspicious ceremonial Odissi Dance performance depicting the Hindu, 10 armed goddess Durga. In this Dance Drama, Chandi, a form of Durga receives 10 weapons from the gods to give her the power to overcome Mahisasura, the demon of Ignorance.

I have attached in my blog an article that is to be published by Indian Currents Magazine's August Issue. It gives a more detailed description of this mythology. This article is written from the point of view of my dance Guru, Jyoti Rout, and edited by Nayantara Nandakumar.

Show dates:
Davis Show-Saturday August 9th 7pm
Berkeley Show- Sunday August 17th, 5pm

I have tix for both shows, and I want to put your name on a ticket.
I can offer tix at the discounted price of $12 (normally $18).
Please RSVP by August 1st, if I shall put some on reserve for you.

Feel free to spread the message of this show, and share it with your friends. It is just too good to miss! See e-flyer below for location details.

Jyoti Kala Mandir presents an Odissi dance and music premier: DEVI Mystic Goddess
Director and Choreographer, Jyoti Rout, seeks to capture the essence of the atmosphere surrounding the worship of Devi. In composing the music for this dance, she collaborated with an orchestra of renowned Orissan musicians. Against the backdrop of this evocative music, Jyoti's choreography is designed to make the audience feel like they are in the womb like sanctum of the temple. The musicians will sing for the goddess, the dancers will dance for her, and you will see her come alive.
Please join us in celebrating through music and dance the exploits of Devi: Mystic Goddess, featuring Guru Jyoti Rout, Gayatri Joshi, Keshini Samerawickreme and JKM dancers, accompanied by a live orchestra from Orissa including, Satchidananda Das (mardal), Sangita Gosain and Binod Bihari Panda (vocals), Swapneswar Chakrabarty (sitar), Nilendra Nath Patra (violin), Srinibas Satapathy (flute) and Nirmal Rout (percussion) .
