Semi Permanent Agricultural Zone

I am proud to anncounce the results of the most recent compost experiments. So far the basic impressions are:

-it doesn't like to be covered.

This is in a 4'w x 10'l x 2'h wooden bin by the way.

-It runs hottest if it's being fed constantly and turned between once and five times a day.

The attached photo captures our record high of 160F during foodnotbombs preparations last Saturday afternoon. It was being fed about four times per hour throughout the day and night.

Everything in the vicinity is blooming ferociously.

Every forkful is saturated with visible mycelium.

The low and wide bin configuration allows for easy turning.

Compost = Heat

very cool,  but do ya got more info?   particularily info about the mycelium that you have spawned, was that intentional on your part?

 are you using that heat for anything, like hydronic space heating? or heating water?

 and on that note, do you think that using the heat from the compost, would in turn slow/degrade the current health of the process? ie: exchange of the heat of the compost into a medium, in turn cooling the compost, slowing the process, etc.
