Bay Area grass-roots community organizers have joined forces to deliver aid and assistance to ongoing community-based relief efforts o­n the Gulf Coast. A caravan of veggie-fueled vehicles will leave San Francisco o­n October 21 to deliver much-needed supplies and people power. Help and monetary support is still needed!

A group of locally based collectives including The Nascent Project, S.P.A.Z., 5lowershop, Katabatik, Circo Mutante and others, are mobilizing in response to the hurricane devastation. A caravan of veggie oil powered vehicles including two buses will be heading to the Gulf Coast to bring much needed supplies, person power, accessible technologies and support to grass-roots relief efforts already in place. Continuing mutual-aid and solidarity with the people of the Hurricane region is necessary.The CounterCurrent Coalition is currently comprised of a road crew of 15 experienced people with a multitude of different skills and talents, and a large diverse support network. Our goals reflect a holistic approach to supporting the basic human needs of the effected communities with the resources we have at hand. We believe "basic human needs" include more than just food, water and shelter. Laughter, learning and the ability to access communication tools are also necessary in regaining a sense of community and hope for the future. It is our duty to share what we have to support in the efforts of communities to rebuild themselves. With a focus o­n solidarity - not "charity", skill sharing and sustainability, we will help counteract the o­ngoing need and bring support in ways large relief organizations can't. Answering the call of community leaders and grass roots organizations already in place, we hope to provide more than immediate relief and a return to normalcy, but would like to support the empowerment of previously neglected communities http://www.c3relief.org
